GUARDIANSHIP

WHAT IS GUARDIANSHIP?

Guardianship is appropriate after a person becomes unable to make informed decisions for themself.  A guardian has the legal duty to make decisions for the care of the vulnerable person.

Guardianship is set up through the Probate Court after a Petition is filed stating that the person lacks the ability to make informed decisions.  We are regularly appointed by Probate Courts in many counties throughout Michigan to assist people with special needs.

As guardian, we get to know our clients, we learn their values and preferences and make decisions that will preserve their dignity and comfort.  We also find therapeutic resources to assist our clients in functioning at their best.  We make decisions about medical treatment and housing by consulting with appropriate professionals while always keeping in mind the client's preferences.
